The Charter at Beaver Creek

The Charter at Beaver Creek has welcomed skiers, hikers, and those seeking rest and relaxation since 1983. The property has two restaurants, spas, pools and hot tubs, and an on-site ski shop. The building is comprised of eight distinct sections, each with five to seven floors. Additionally, there are three underground parking levels.

The board and management group of The Charter engaged with Herter Design Group to help solve the property’s extensive wayfinding issues. Because the resort is built into the mountainous terrain, the eight sections of the building (A–G, L) do not share consistent levels across a contiguous floor. There are five elevators that access different levels, and not all elevators provide direct access to the lobby or the building’s amenities.

HDG designed consistent building and level identification signs at the threshold to each building, helping to clearly mark where one is within the building at all times. A separate series of signs, in the direction from one’s room to the lobby/center of the building, are provided to guide guests along the way. These signs indicate the next building and/or elevators ahead as well as the direction to the lobby.

Large graphic map based wayfinding signs are shown at critical points on the Lobby Level and Lower Lobby Level to help assist with direction to amenities. Elevator directories also utilize maps and provide clear information on which levels and elevators to use to access amenities, as the each elevator does not provide direct access.
