ASLA Exhibition: Smart Policies for a Changing Climate

May 2022

Washington, DC

Environmental Graphics

Climate change is the most pressing challenge of our time, posing an existential threat to our society and life on Earth as we know it. ASLA is committed to providing resources and tools that empower their members to design a more sustainable and equitable world through landscape architecture. This includes enhancing communities so that they work in tandem with their natural systems. This exhibition highlights how a “pave the planet” development approach only exacerbates existing problems by disrupting natural hydrology, contributing to water pollution, and causing flooding due to the replacement of natural vegetation with impervious surfaces.

Twenty case studies located across the United States are presented within five (5) classifications: Natural Systems, Community Development, Vulnerable Communities, Transportation, and Agriculture. Each case study clearly outlines how the landscape architecture design addresses climate change related issues, showing the holistic approach required to confront the challenges to come. Large scale all caps typography and prominent use of bold color highlights the dangers of climate change and the urgency needed to find solutions.
